Familiar words. A fresh question.
You may recognize a line of Scripture before you remember where it belongs. Wordle of God turns that moment into a small daily challenge: not “what is the next word?” but “where is this verse found?”
The passage is your clue. Work through the reference one part at a time, from the book to the chapter to the verse number. A remembered phrase can become a reason to revisit a passage; an unfamiliar one can become something new to learn.
You don’t need to know every reference to begin. Normal mode offers a shorter list of choices, and running out of tries reveals the answer so you can keep going.
Read. Recall. Find the reference.
Read today’s verse, choose its book, then guess the chapter and verse number. Each section is a separate part of the same daily puzzle.
Choose the book
Look for a familiar voice, person, setting, or phrase. In Normal mode, select from a short list. In God mode, browse the Old and New Testament book lists.
Find the chapter
Once the book is correct or revealed, choose the chapter within that book. A correct choice takes you to the final section.
Identify the verse number
Choose the verse number within the chapter. Finish this section to see the full reference and your result.
Take the answer with you
Review your score and rank. Use the game’s Share button to copy your result, or look up the surrounding passage in your Bible for more context.
What happens after a wrong guess? That choice is marked as incorrect and can’t be chosen again. After five wrong guesses in a section, its answer is revealed and that section earns zero points. You then move on, or finish the puzzle if it was the verse section.
A little guidance. Or the full list.
Normal and God modes use the same daily verse and scoring system. The difference is how many choices you see.
Normal mode
Choose from up to four options in each section, including the correct answer. A section with fewer possible answers may show fewer choices. A helpful starting point when you’re still learning Bible references.
God mode
Choose from the full set: all 66 listed Bible books, the chapters in the selected book, and the verse numbers in the chapter. Each section allows up to five wrong guesses before revealing its answer.
Use the mode toggle at the bottom of the game to switch while the puzzle is unfinished. Switching modes does not start a fresh puzzle or erase your wrong guesses.
How the 1,000 points work.
The book is worth 400 points, the chapter 350, and the verse 250. Solve all three on your first choice for a perfect 1,000. Each wrong guess reduces the points available in that section only.
| Correct on | Book | Chapter | Verse |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st choice · 100% | 400 | 350 | 250 |
| 2nd choice · 75% | 300 | 263 | 188 |
| 3rd choice · 50% | 200 | 175 | 125 |
| 4th choice · 30% | 120 | 105 | 75 |
| 5th choice · 15% | 60 | 53 | 38 |
| Five wrong · revealed | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Each section’s points are rounded to the nearest whole number before they are added together. For example, a first-choice book, second-choice chapter, and third-choice verse earn 400 + 263 + 125 = 788 points: Silver.
In Normal mode, a correct answer is among the displayed choices, so the fifth-choice outcome generally applies to God mode. There is no separate scoring bonus for choosing God mode.
Before you begin.
When does Wordle of God reset?
The daily puzzle changes at midnight UTC (00:00 UTC). It follows the UTC calendar date, not your local midnight. Reload the game after that time to load the new day’s puzzle.
Does everyone get the same verse?
Yes. The game serves one verse for each UTC date. Both difficulty modes use that same daily verse; the multiple-choice options in Normal mode can differ.
Do I need an account to play?
No account is required to play. The game saves daily progress in your browser’s local storage, along with your difficulty preference and whether you have seen the tutorial.
Will my progress be saved if I leave?
Your progress is saved locally in the browser you use, when local storage is available. Returning in the same browser on the same UTC date restores that day’s saved state. Clearing site data, using another browser or device, or private browsing can remove or separate that progress. It is not account-based cross-device sync.
Is this a five-letter word game?
No. Despite the name, Wordle of God asks you to identify a Bible reference, not a five-letter word. The verse text is the clue, and you guess the book, chapter, and verse number in sequence.
Do I get five tries for the entire puzzle?
No. The limit applies separately to each of the three sections. Five wrong guesses reveal that section’s answer and award it zero points. A correct guess before that limit advances you to the next section.
Can I change modes partway through?
Yes. While the puzzle is unfinished, use the Normal / God toggle at the bottom of the game. Your existing progress and wrong guesses remain, and the daily verse stays the same.
Can beginners play?
Yes. Start with Normal mode for up to four choices per section. You can learn the reference even if you run out of tries, because the game reveals the answer and lets you continue.
How do I share my result?
Complete the puzzle, then select Share. The game tries to copy a summary of your mode, section results, score, and rank to the clipboard. If clipboard access is unavailable, it displays the share text instead.
Where does the Bible verse text come from?
The game retrieves its verse text from bible-api.com. The current integration requests a Bible reference without explicitly selecting a translation. If you compare wording with your own Bible, keep possible translation differences in mind.
A reference is a beginning.
The game’s Scripture text is supplied through bible-api.com. This guide describes the game’s current rules, scoring, and browser-based progress saving.
A single verse is only part of a passage. Once the reference is revealed, consider reading the surrounding chapter in your Bible to understand its setting and meaning.

One verse. A new place to begin.
